Gangsterism and guns plague local youth
Authorities raise the alarm as crime in Toekomsrus spirals, with children as young as 10 affected by gang violence, drugs and armed robberies.
Police have raised the alarm over escalating crime in Toekomsrus and Mohlakeng, where incidents of gangsterism, drug trafficking, armed robberies and illegal possession of firearms are becoming increasingly common.
According to Una Dickson, the MMC for Health and Social Development at Rand West City Local Municipality, the situation has reached alarming levels, with children as young as 10 to 14 years old being affected.
Acting station commander for Mohlakeng, Colonel Jones Baloyi, confirmed that police operations will be intensified to clamp down on criminal activity in these areas.

Local leaders, including acting executive mayor Nontombi Molatlhegi, acknowledged that communities and law enforcement must work together to restore safety.
“This meeting marks the beginning of practical and collaborative solutions to tackle the challenges,” she said.
The meeting, attended by municipal officials and representatives from the Departments of Health and Social Development, aimed to find ways to curb the growing wave of crime and protect vulnerable residents.
