Who is wasting water?

Residents in Randgate have raised concerns about water being wasted due to leaks yet the municipality requests them to save water.

Since April, a leak in Langerman Street, Randgate has caused concern for residents and this is, however, not the only issue.

In February a smaller leak occurred on the corner of Langerman and Malan Street, which has since turned into a small waterfall.

Resident Danie van Schalkwyk explained he noticed the leak in front of a housing complex on Langerman Street in the morning and immediately reported it. He has made numerous attempts to report it, however, has been blocked by every person he has reported it to.

As the leak was covering the driveway, he decided to dig a small trench so the water could flow into and away from the driveway.

Down the road, on the corner of Langerman and Malan Street, Van Schalkwyk noticed another leak, which was still small at the time. It has since become bigger, now resembling a waterfall. It has also become a dumping site.

The corner has also become a dumping site.

“They urge us to use water sparingly, however, these leaks waste water and it is not being repaired,” Van Schalkwyk said.

Rand West Local Municipality has been approached for comment yet no feedback was given at the time of print.

Their response will be published once received.
