Bundu Inn residents fed up and frustrated
With unserviced portable toilets and no proper housing, Bundu Inn informal settlement residents took to the streets to bring awareness to their struggles.
Residents of Bundu Inn informal settlement held a demonstration on May 14 to bring attention to the difficult circumstances they live in.

The leader of the West Rand Socialists Movement, Lehlohonolo Matsabisa, stated that the residents of the informal settlement face many issues daily, however, their main concern is the portable toilets.
“The toilets haven’t been serviced for more than two months now, but we were told the contractor hasn’t been paid to service the toilets.
It is a health risk, especially to women and children,” said Matsabisa.
He continued that the Rand West City Local Municipality dispatched two trucks this morning, May 15, after finding out about the demonstration to service the toilets, however, not all of them were serviced.
Matsabisa added that the residents decided they do not want these toilets any longer, and they also do not want to stay at the informal settlement waiting for houses anymore. They want to be allocated immediately to proper housing; therefore, they took to the streets again on Wednesday night to send a proper message to the municipality.

The community agreed that in the coming weeks, they will march to the Department of Housing if a solution is not found before the end of the week.
“This is not the first time the residents have complained about the issues. The environment they are living in is not at all good for raising children or even having families living in the area.
There is no electricity or proper sanitation, and no safety at all; therefore, the municipality must try by all means to intervene.”
