Residents voice fury over water issues
As Rand Water resolved the water outage and repaired the burst pipe, many residents still face water supply challenges.
The recent water shortage left many without water, and even though the issue is said to be resolved, some residents are still struggling to access this basic human right.

Resident Dionne Gordon from Toekomsrus claims this is a daily occurrence for her.
“Every day and every night, we have three to four hours of outages. When there are water shortages in other areas, water tankers are set aside to service them. Toekomsrus has never had that privilege. If a tanker is made available, it is rarely clean water. I would encourage the community to call in the Human Rights Commission, because we are being deprived of a basic human right,” she explained.
She further expressed that the area has sick and elderly people who are in constant need of water services.
How does the municipality expect us to survive?” she concluded.
Resident Sandra Arendse also took the stand by explaining the challenges she had gone through during the water outage.
“For us elderly people, water is a necessity. We need water to drink our pills. What about the babies? Babies also need water to drink their milk, and they need to be bathed. This outage was not handled right, and it was extremely unfair to residents,” she said.
The Randfontein Herald’s sister publication, the Krugersdorp News, reported that Rand Water completed repairs to the major burst pipeline, which caused the outage. Although pumping started again at the Eikenhof pump station, reservoir levels are slowly returning to normal.
Municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa was approached for comment and noted the Herald’s enquiries. No comment has been given on the matter.
