Municipality promises swift action after Dan Tloome protest

In response to the recent protest by Dan Tloome residents, the Rand West City Local Municipality has pledged to repair the faulty water pump that left the community without water for three weeks.

Following a protest that brought Tafelberg Street to a standstill on Monday, September 1, the Rand West City Local Municipality has assured residents of the Dan Tloome Mega City Project that their water supply will soon be restored.

Residents, who say they have been without water for more than three weeks, voiced their anger by taking to the streets. Community leader Michael Chax Tsone explained that the municipality had promised to replace a faulty pump, but delays left residents feeling ignored.

“The community decided it is taking too long, and they came to the street because that is the only language our municipality understands. We came to find out whether or not the new pump is coming or not. Dan Tloome is a new development with a lot of challenges like electricity, water and issues of unemployment. So, there are a lot of issues that need to be addressed by the leadership in our community.

“Some of us are not being given service. Even the infrastructure of the development is not up to standard,” Tsone said.

In response, municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa confirmed that water restoration is underway and gave assurances that the supply would return soon.

“We are fully committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible. We will continue deploying water tanks in the meantime,” Montshiwa said.
