Clean up to show pride in the community
Residents of Toekomsrus came together to clean their area, tackle illegal dumping and prepare for matric farewells, showing pride in their community.
The residents of Toekomsrus came together to celebrate Heritage Day by tidying up their neighbourhood and improving communal spaces.
Resident Koekie Allie said people who witnessed the effort were extremely pleased and praised the work.
“They also expressed their hope that our community could work together and not dump rubbish. We were an example for our people.”

The clean-up was partly in preparation for the upcoming matric farewells. Residents cut grass, collected litter, and repainted the stage built for last year’s matric farewell.

Koekie noted that illegal dumping sites remain a major concern in the area.

“We would really like to get the community involved with these cleaning campaigns. Then we can show other areas how clean Toekomsrus is. It is our community, we should be proud of our community and residents,” she said.
She added that more campaigns are planned for the future. These cleared areas could be transformed into gardens or used for car washes, provided residents obtain the necessary permission.
