Glenharvie and Bekkersdal reservoirs still empty
Glenharvie and Bekkersdal reservoirs remain empty, while Greenhills reservoirs have suspended pumping operations, leaving local water levels critically low.
Rand West City Local Municipality has issued an update on the current water levels of local reservoirs.
Level 2 water restrictions, imposed by Rand Water, continue to affect several areas, with some reservoirs completely dry.
Current water levels are as follows:
• Bekkersdal pressure towers: Empty
• Glenharvie Reservoir 1: Empty
• Glenharvie Reservoir 2: Empty
• Westergloor Reservoirs 1, 2 and 3: 20%
• Greenhills Reservoirs 1 and 2: 20%, with pumping suspended
• Finsbury Reservoir: 30%
• Hillshaven Reservoir: 45%, with adequate water levels
• Westonaria Reservoir 1: 50%
• Westonaria Reservoir 2: 45%
• Westonaria Reservoir 3: 65%, with adequate water levels
• Waterpan Reservoir: 55%

“These restrictions have caused a 0% pumping rate in Bekkersdal, Glenharvie and Venterspos. Pumps in Randfontein have also been switched off, affecting the Mohlakeng and Toekomsrus areas,” municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa said.
He added that water tankers are being deployed to the affected areas.

The Randfontein Herald requested comment on the situation from both Rand West City, but no response was received by the time of publication.
