Water shortage worsens in Rand West City

Rand West City is in a water crisis as 10 reservoirs run critically low, with some areas completely dry. Two areas are hit with level 2 water restrictions as well.

Ten reservoirs in Rand West City are critically low, including Bekkersdal and the completely dry Glenharvie.

According to Rand West City Local (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, Rand Water has now imposed Level 2 water restrictions on the area, leading to 0% water levels in Venterspos and Westonaria.

Current reservoir levels are as follows:

• Bekkersdal pressure towers: Empty
• Glenharvie reservoir 1 and 2: Empty
• Westergloor reservoir 1, 2, and 3: 30%
• Finsbury reservoir: 40%
• Westonaria reservoir 1: 45%
• Westonaria reservoir 2: 55%
• Westonaria reservoir 3: 65%
• Greenhills reservoir 1 and 2: 20%
• Waterpan reservoir: 80%
• Hillshaven reservoir: 50%

Bekkersdal pressure towers, Glenharvie reservoir 1 and 2, Westergloor reservoir 1, 2, and 3, Finsbury reservoir, Westonaria reservoir 1, Greenhills reservoir 1 and 2 are all marked under critically low. The Waterpan reservoir is the only reservoir in the green zone and is marked at adequate water levels.
