Droogeheuwel rock blasting set to proceed this week
Blasting operations at the Droogeheuwel Mega Civil Project have been rescheduled and will now continue until this weekend, with strict safety measures in place for nearby residents.
Residents in the area surrounding the Droogeheuwel Mega Civil Project (Phase 2.1) on the R41 (BNG5127) are advised to take note of scheduled blasting operations for rock removal set to take place from tomorrow, May 13, until Saturday, May 16.
According to blasting contractor Andre Myburgh, the blasting operations are expected to last about 30 minutes and will take place between 14:00 and 16:00 at the Bulk Sewer Line near the Mixalon Site office and at BNG 3828.
Site preparations are currently underway, with strict safety protocols in place to protect both workers and the public. Warning systems will be activated ahead of each blast, including a siren sounding five minutes before detonation.

The surrounding area will be fully evacuated during blasting, with flagmen stationed and equipped with danger boards to secure the site. Access will be restricted at least 30 minutes before each blast to ensure all individuals are moved to a safe distance.
Community members are urged to remain alert to warning signals and to comply with all safety instructions during the blasting periods. The project team has emphasised that these measures are essential to ensure that operations are carried out safely and efficiently.
Myburgh added that blasting will typically take place within the designated time window as part of controlled operations at the site.
The project forms part of broader infrastructure development efforts, with the Bulk Sewer Line playing an important role in supporting future growth.
The latest notice comes days after blasting operations were previously rescheduled following weather-related disruptions.
At the time, Myburgh explained that recent rainfall had delayed blasting activities, with work only set to proceed once site conditions were deemed safe.
