The municipality has officially commenced a programme to install protective pole structures across various areas within the city. This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to address infrastructure damage, reduce maintenance costs, and improve the reliability of electricity distribution to communities.

To carry out the project, the municipality has appointed Bash Electrical, which will be responsible for the installation of approximately 300 protective pole structures. These structures are designed to shield electricity poles from damage caused by vehicle collisions, vandalism, and general wear and tear.

The rollout of the programme is set to begin this week, with the first phase focusing on the areas of Westergloor, Randgate, and Randfontein. Residents in these areas may notice installation teams working along roads and near key infrastructure points.

Residents are advised that the programme will be extended to other areas within the city in due course.

According to RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, the purpose of the programme is to improve community safety, secure electricity meters, protect municipal infrastructure, and safeguard municipal revenue.

Residents are urged to exercise caution around work sites and to cooperate with installation teams as the programme gets underway.
