Mohlakeng community takes a stand against litter

Residents joined forces in a community clean-up initiative, tackling litter and illegal dumping while promoting pride and responsibility for a cleaner environment.

Residents of Mohlakeng Ext 5 came together yesterday, June 17, in a show of unity and pride as they took part in a community clean-up campaign aimed at improving their surroundings.

Community members of all ages rolled up their sleeves to clear litter, remove illegal dumping, and restore cleanliness to public spaces within the area. Armed with refuse bags, gloves, and determination, volunteers worked tirelessly to make a visible difference.

Organiser of the clean-up, Thulani Ntombela, said that as residents of Mohlakeng, they decided to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty for the benefit of their community.

“We conducted clean-up operations of the dumping sites across our community, and the campaign has been a success. We appreciate all the community members who volunteered and also those who donated food and beverages to the volunteers.”

The initiative not only focused on cleaning the environment but also on raising awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy and safe living space. Thulani emphasised the need for ongoing efforts and community responsibility to prevent future littering and dumping. Such campaigns help build stronger community bonds while creating a more pleasant environment for everyone.

The success of the clean-up has inspired calls for similar initiatives to be held regularly, with hopes of encouraging more residents to take part in keeping Mohlakeng Ext 5 clean and well-maintained.
