Toekies residents frustrated by delays at wheelie bin handover

Long waits in the sun spark frustration during municipal service delivery handover.

Rand West City Executive Mayor William Matsheke, accompanied by Deputy Executive Mayor Nontombi Molatlhegi and MMC for Integrated Environmental Management Nozipho Mapena, handed over wheelie bins and plants to Toekomsrus Ext 2 households on Thursday, October 15.

The distribution followed concerns raised by residents during a previous Integrated Development Plan (IDP) meeting about the lack of wheelie bins for refuse removal.

“We are here to honour the commitment we made during our previous IDP meeting,” Matsheke said, adding that the municipality intended to fulfil other commitments made to communities across the city.

Delays spark frustration

However, the wait frustrated some residents. Sello Makene said they had been waiting for more than an hour.

“We just want them to give us the bins so we can go home,” he said.

Another resident, Sihle Khoza, described the handover as chaotic but said he was grateful to receive a wheelie bin.

While the distribution addressed a concern previously raised by the community, the delays left some residents dissatisfied with the organisation of the event.
