Bekkersdal police give back to the community

They recently handed out soup to children that were on their way to school.

While the Bekkersdal police continue to observe Nelson Mandela Month under the theme ‘Do what you a can, with what you have, where you are’, they aimed to give back to others.

Bekkersdal police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said the good Samaritan Warrant Officer Jacobus Visser of the Bekkersdal SAP 13 stores took it upon himself to prepare soup for the kids from and around the informal settlement who walk past the police station as they made their way to their various schools on Wednesday July 27.

Lefakane said the aim was to give back and at the same time keep the tiny stomachs warm by dishing out soup at the gate as they walked to school.

We try where we can to eradicate poverty amongst our communities. I therefore intend to continue until I exit the force,” said Warrant Officer Visser.

The Station Commander commended the member for the gesture and for taking the needs of the community to heart.

“This is a good practice; thank you for lifting our flag high,” said Bekkersdal Police Station commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela.
