Damaged high-mast light poles repaired
The municipality's electrical department was quick to repair damaged high-mast lighting in Wheatlands on Wednesday.
The Rand West City Local Municipality’s (RWCLM) electrical department has been praised for repairing damaged high-mast lighting.
This comes after they attended and repaired damaged high-mast lights along Road No. 6 opposite Setholela Priamary School in Wheatlands on December 7.
Speaking to the Herald in an interview, Ward 3 Councillor in Randfontein, Alwyn van Tonder said the poles were reported and fixed all on the same day.
“The issue with the light poles was reported in the morning and by 18:00 it had already been sorted out. It didn’t cause power outages in the area, as the lights were still on despite this. Municipal workers worked tirelessly and carried out the repairs during load-shedding and I think what residents need to take note of is that the electrical department is really under a lot of pressure. They experience theft every night in different areas, including vandalism,” said Van Tonder.
He added that municipal workers from the electrical department are putting in every effort they can to keeping the lights on.
He further pleaded with residents to be more understanding of some situations, as they are caused by the criminal element of theft and vandalism.
“I’d really like to request that the residents should consider what these people are doing for the town. This is a department that is doing whatever it can because it is experiencing a lot of theft and vandalism. This is in addition to the recent storms,” Van Tonder concluded.
