Several arrests in early-morning Operation Okae Molao on R28-R559
Police officers and other relevant stakeholders are operating on the R28 and the R559 and are manning major roadblocks coming into and out of the Randfontein area.
On Thursday, June 29, police from several stations in the West Rand District came out in force to crack down on illicit activity as part of Operation Okae Molao.

They are cooperating with the Rand West City Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Police, the Department of Home Affairs, and other key partners to man large-scale roadblocks coming into and out of Randfontein.

West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana told the Randfontein Herald on the scene that police want to ensure that lawlessness is being dealt away with.

“As part of our standard operation in Gauteng, we conduct Operation Okae Molao every Thursday. There will also be one over the weekend. For the West Rand District, we decided to come to Randfontein today because its police station is among one of the country’s top 30 police stations with a high crime rate.

“That’s why we regularly have to make sure that we conduct operations in the areas of these stations that have a high crime rate, to minimise and eliminate criminal activities,” said Kekana.
He said that several arrests have been made since the beginning of the operation but that official statistics will be released at a later stage.
