Residents reminded of planned shutdown from tonight – Tuesday, July 11
Rand Water has rescheduled the shutdown for July 11 beginning at 19:00 and ending at 15:00 on July 13 – Rand West City Local Municipality spokesperson to residents.
Residents of Rand West City and its surrounding areas are reminded to prepare for a possible water outage set to take place from 19:00 tonight, July 11.
Communication was issued by Rand Water recently, which says that it is planning a shutdown in numerous areas in and around Johannesburg.
Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa confirmed that residents need to store enough water during this time.
“It will take Rand Water 37 hours to replace a pump set at the Eikenhof system that is affected by the non-return valve No 20 and the delivery valve No 21 at Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant. During this time, pumping at Eikenhof Booster Pumping Station will be reduced to 24 percent for 58 hours,” said Montshiwa.
As a result, the following reservoirs within Rand Water will be affected:
• Meredale 1 and 2
• Driefontein
• Libanon 3
According to Montshiwa, these reservoirs will lead to the possibility of several areas in RWCLM being affected and the recovery time may take up to two weeks after supply is fully restored.
“Residents are advised to store sufficient water for the duration of the shutdown. The municipality will continue to monitor the situation and provide regular updates. We do apologise for any inconvenience caused,” Montshiwa said.
