Bones the starving dog needs donations

The SPCA vows to take further steps against an owner after a dog was found being starved for three months.

The RandWest SPCA appeals to the community for donations after finding a dog that has been starved for three months.

Upon receiving a disturbing call from a concerned resident of a neglected dog, inspector René van Straten rushed over.

According to Van Straten the moment she saw the condition of the dog she immediately obtained a seize warrant to remove the dog from the premises.

René van Straten decided to call the dog Bones.

After seeing how skinny the dog was, Van Straten decided to call the dog Bones.

His scrawny condition was not the only medical concern as Van Straten suspected the possibility of TVT (cancerous tumours of the genitalia in dogs). However, after rushing Bones to the Homestead Veterinary Hospital, it was confirmed that Bones was not suffering from TVT.

Further inspection concluded that Bones had indeed starved for three months.

René van Straten found Bones in a condition of starvation.

“He is sadly not out of danger yet as other medical conditions such as organ failure and biliary (known as tick bite fever) can still make an appearance because of his poor immune,” Van Straten said.

According to Van Straten, the SPCA is looking to take further steps against the owner regarding the Animals Protection Act.

Donations for Bones’ recovery can be made by contacting the SPCA on 011 412 3114.
