Operation ‘Find Grace’ a success

No More Tears journeys through Randfontein to help Grace, an injured dog.

No More Tears Animal Rescue along with other organisations embarked on a tireless mission for more than a month to catch Grace the missing and injured dog.

According to No More Tears director Stephan Hendricks, Grace is a mixed-breed, medium size female. The first time No More Tears became aware of Grace was in January after a concerned resident took a picture of her.

“It was by chance that the resident saw Grace since she is very scared of human interaction and is rarely seen,” Hendricks commented.

After seeing Grace’s picture, No More Tears launched a search to find Grace. However, Hendricks claimed that the search proved unsuccessful.

About six weeks ago, No More Tears received more pictures of Grace and they decided to continue the search once again. Hendricks stated that they installed cameras and took to the streets to see if they could catch Grace.

“We had no luck finding her whatsoever. We searched for more than a month. During the ordeal, some of our cameras were even stolen. Eventually, we saw her eating some of the food that we put out somewhere close to Uncle Harry’s,” he claimed.

Grace’s leg may need to be amputated.

Hendricks added the breakthrough occurred on Monday (May 20) after a resident reported that Grace was at the golf course. No More Tears contacted local veterinarian Dr Johan Naudé who arrived on the scene to tranquilise Grace. Thereafter, Naudé did a thorough examination of Grace’s condition.

Grace’s right front paw was severely swollen and infected due to a metal wire that was stuck around her leg. Naudé stated that as of now he is unsure if Grace’s leg can be saved or needs to be amputated. He further determined that Grace also suffers from vaginal cancer which he has also partly removed with surgery.

“At this stage, Grace is very frightened and uncomfortable. We just need to show Grace enough tender love and care so that she knows she does not need to fear us any longer,” Naudé concluded.

“I would like to thank Dr Naudé for his time and commitment along with the 9th Day Animal Rescue Centre for the endless support to find Grace,” Hendricks said.

Furthermore, if anyone is interested in donating to Grace’s cause, donations can be delivered directly to the Randfontein Animal Hospital.
