Fighting against GBV, together

Provincial and municipal members along with the public took a strong stand against GBV during a peaceful march recently.

The Gauteng MEC for Social Development Faith Mazibuko and Rand West City Executive Mayor William Matsheke along with masses in the community recently embarked on a gender-based violence (GBV) walk.

The campaign kicked off from U Save to Four Square where Matsheke and Mazibuko addressed the community.

To demonstrate solidarity with women and victims of GBV, Matsheke was among many men seen wearing orange tutus.

Mohlakeng Station Commander, Colonel Joyce Tuuba address the crowd.

“We are here to support victims of GBV and openly announce that there is no place in Rand West City for perpetrators committing violence against women. We also prayed and held a candle-lighting ceremony conducted by clergy Pastor Lebogang Lebeko to symbolise that God can shine a light on such evil deeds,” said Mazibuko.

“As Rand West City, we are here to celebrate women and show them that we are behind them every step of the way,” added Matsheke.

Member of Parliament Jane Khoza expressed an element of surprise with the turn-up of community and various NGO groups, patrollers, disabled and LGBTQ members who packed Ralerata Street, dancing and singing while blowing whistles.

“We are all in this together in the Monthly Orange Campaign. We are all victims of abuse of all kinds, even cyberbullying,” added Khoza.
