A safe sanctuary for 44 new birds
Brainy Birds Parrot Rescue and Rehabilitation Sanctuary has rehabilitated 44 parrots who have now joined their feathered friends at the aviary.
The Brainy Birds Parrot Rescue and Rehabilitation Sanctuary recently took in 44 new birds, specifically parrots.
The sanctuary’s manager, Natalie Sutherland, explained that Dee Hendrickx founded the sanctuary in Edenvale in 2015. The satellite sanctuary in Randfontein started as a privately owned aviary. After the owner noticed the work Brainy Birds does, he offered his aviary to provide a haven of love and care to birds that could be relocated.

She said the 44 parrots were recently brought to the satellite sanctuary after receiving therapy and rehabilitation at the Brainy Birds rescue. After more than a year of strengthening, they were strong enough to join the other birds at the satellite aviary where there is open flying space.
The birds currently at the sanctuary include Conures, Lorikeets, Congo African Greys, Timneh African Greys and Eclectus among others.

The adoption process adheres to the protocol of Brainy Birds. None of the birds can be returned to the wild as they were previously pets who had suffered physical, emotional and mental abuse and won’t be able to survive in the wild.
