Infamous intersection claims two lives
An intersection in Middelvlei has become infamous for reckless driving and crashes after two more lives were lost.

Residents in Middelvlei are demanding an upgrade of stop signs after two more people were killed at the now infamous intersection situated at Main and Steyn Road.
Sam Moremi (23) lost two of his friends when their car collided with a bakkie on December 8.
“We were on our way to drop one of my friends off. We were driving on Steyn Road, and a bakkie was driving on Main Road when suddenly we collided at the intersection. One of my friends died instantly, while the other one was rushed to the hospital. He was declared dead at the hospital,” Moremi explained.
Moremi is the only survivor of the horror crash, even though he sustained a broken femur and broken right arm. He had to undergo two operations.
“It is so sad. I do not know how to feel about it. I can barely cope, and I struggle to sleep at night,” he expressed.
He added he wishes the municipality would place speed humps or even stop signs at the intersection, which would help prevent more collisions.
Rand West City Local Municipality was approached for comment, where spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa stated they are fully committed and focused on resolving the issue.
“The municipality is in the process of fixing stop signs and prioritising certain areas with high traffic flow. Ultimately, all areas that require stop sign repairs will be addressed,” he concluded.
