Shack fire: Moyikwa family home being rebuilt

Nondumiso Moyikwa can finally begin to rebuild her life after community members took her hands to help rebuild her home.

The community has decided to jump in and help rebuild a woman’s home following a devastating fire.

The Randfontein Herald reported last month how Nondumiso Moyikwa (54), a mother of four, was left without a home after their informal dwelling burnt down in Mohlakeng.

According to Nondumiso, a person living in Finsbury donated a bed as well as two blankets and clothing. Also, a local organisation has offered to tear down what remains of the burnt shack and to replace it with a new one. A church also phoned Nondumiso and told her that they were willing to assist her with her needs.

“I would just like to say thank you to the people who decided to help me out of the goodness of their hearts. I appreciate it so much. May God bless you,” she said.

She expressed her feelings about finally being able to have a home again.

“It is better today. There is a lot of progress. I am so excited to finally see myself in the shack.”

The shack has not been finished yet as Nondumiso is still in need of corrugated iron sheets for the roof and timber panelling. If anyone can donate, contact Nondumiso on 073 361 4496 or Nzimeni Funeka on 072 811 6714.
