Thunderstorm leads to another power outage

After a severe thunderstorm caused a power outage Sunday night, technicians have been dispatched to fix the issue.

This weekend’s severe thunderstorm left parts of Randfontein without electricity. The Drowel Substation and Randfontein DS remain switched off.

Councillor Alwyn van Tonder has given notice of a power outage around 20:00 on Sunday, February 23.

According to van Tonder, this comes after drastic thunderstorms caused issues at Eskom and Drowel Substations.

“It was reported and the electrician from the municipality went out to check the substation and found that it was off on the Eskom side. We then received feedback that the Eskom technicians would be dispatched to switch on their side.

“Drowel substation as well as Randfontein DS is still off. There is unfortunately no new feedback that I can share at this stage. We will share an update with the community as soon as we receive an update,” Van Tonder concluded.
