SPCA rescues two neglected pit bulls
Two underweight and parasite-infested pit bulls that the RandWest SPCA recently rescued are doing better, but they still have a long way to go.
The RandWest SPCA recently rescued two pit bulls from dire situations and gave them a second chance at life.

SPCA manager René van Straten stated that one dog was found in Randfontein and the other in Krugersdorp. In both cases, they received anonymous calls from residents concerned for the animals’ well-being. She noted that both dogs were extremely underweight and that their situations were worsening.
They were both in an emaciated condition. The dog from Randfontein was infested with internal parasites that were never treated.
“The dog from Krugersdorp was underweight due to malnutrition and covered in external parasites and skin problems,” explained René.
She noted both dogs were removed from their owners and are currently in the care of the SPCA. Both are still shy but in the process of healing.
René continued that it would still take a few months for the dogs to be adopted. Both their criminal cases must first go to court for the court to decide whether the owners are guilty of animal cruelty and whether they will officially be scraped of ownership of the dogs. The dogs also first need to be trained before they will be available to be adopted safely.
“Any donations are welcome; we would appreciate it if people reached out to help with our vet bill,” Van Straten added.
She stated it is important for people to report animals in bad conditions and not keep quiet.

“All complaints are handled anonymously and we will never reveal who filed the complaint. We want to thank the people who brought the two dogs to our attention,” she said.
