Seasoned dog trainer Wendy Eno, who has over 30 years of experience, emphasised the importance of obedience training for both pets and their handlers.

“Dog training is crucial because it teaches owners how to properly handle their pets,” Wendy explained.

“A handler must know the correct way to feed their dog, how to discipline it when necessary, and how to ensure their pet reliably responds when called. Basic obedience training helps owners understand how their dogs think and introduces them to the natural hierarchy within the canine world.”

The course includes vital skills such as socialisation, leash training, and commands like sit, down, and stay. Additionally, dogs are taught to stand on command – a useful skill for veterinary visits when their temperature needs to be taken. Open to dogs of all ages, the programme focuses on improving communication between owners and their pets.

“Many dogs come from working breeds and need mental and physical stimulation,” Wendy added.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see an animal gain a better quality of life through structured training.”

She also highlighted that training benefits not only the dog but also the owner.

“Understanding each other is key. When dogs feel understood, they are happier and better behaved.”

Encouraging all dog owners to participate, Wendy concluded, “Dog training is affordable and beneficial for everyone. The transformation from the first lesson to the last is remarkable. The owner learns to handle their dog correctly, and the dog is just happy to know who the boss is – it’s a win-win.”
