According to a volunteer at No More Tears, Clarisse Kruger, this is a reminder of why they are needed in the community.
She explained they received a call from a motorist who informed them that they spotted a black and white dog running around with a rope around its neck that had cut into its flesh. The motorist also noticed the dog was malnourished, but as soon as they approached the dog, it ran away. Clarisse continued that they rushed out the next day but weren’t able to find the dog.
“A kind-hearted person put out some food in the hope the dog would come and eat, but the food was left untouched. We drove around a couple of times one Sunday as well, but not a single sighting of this poor dog needing urgent medical treatment,” she said.
On March 31, the director of No More Tears, Stephan Hendricks, received the call they’d been waiting for. He said the dog had been spotted again, and he immediately rushed out.
There was no way we were going to let the dog get away again. Our vet was on stand-by should we need to get the poor soul darted,” Clarisse explained.
Not too long, and the dog was safely in a trap. The dog was taken to Randfontein Animal Hospital, where she is being treated.
Clarisse also noted the wound on the dog’s neck from where the rope cut into it was fairly deep, and it already had a smell. The dog was also covered in fleas, with a number of them on the wound.
“Our appreciation goes out to Dr Johan Naude and his team for always assisting animals in need. At this stage, we really need donations for her medical expenses. It is still a long road to recovery, but she is doing well with Dr Naude,” Clarisse added.
