Elderly receive much-needed donations

The Mohlakeng Concerned Community Forum recently reached out to Hephzibah Old Age Home to show they care for the elderly.

Recently, the Mohlakeng Concerned Community Forum (MCCF) visited the Hephzibah Old Age Home to introduce themselves to the residents as well as hand over much-needed donations.

Chairperson of the MCCF, Paul Mokgopanyane, stated, “We were inspired to reach out by so many things, including love and passion. We also wanted to ensure the patients in the centre know the community cares about them.”

He continued that the funding the home receives from the Department of Health is not enough to sustain them, which is why they, as a community forum, wanted to help out.

The goal of the MCCF is to try and offload the daily problems the community faces,” said Paul.

The old age home’s centre manager, Masekolo Mashigo, explained they opened their doors in 2014 with 18 patients at the time, and in 2018, they had grown to 30 patients. Today, they have 47 patients in need of 24-hour care.

Masekolo said, “We are very happy with the donations; the patients will enjoy the change in their diets.”

Paul noted they chose Hephzibah as the patients are all geriatric patients and fragile. They also reach out to other care centres in the area as well as crèches and schools. Further, they hope to eradicate unemployment among the youth and help with student bursaries.

The MCCF is highly concerned about all spheres of the community,” he concluded.
