About 300 Sibanye Stillwater miners trapped without access to food or water

The National Union of Mineworkers revealed that hundreds of miners remain trapped underground at Sibanye-Stillwater’s Kloof mine in Westonaria.

It has been confirmed that about 300 mineworkers are currently trapped underground at Sibanye Stillwater’s Kloof Mine without access to food or water.

The National Union of Mineworkers spokesperson, Livhuwani Mammburu, explained that the mineworkers got trapped yesterday, May 22, in shaft 7 of Kloof Mine.

At the moment, the information is still scarce. We are waiting for the preliminary report.

“At this moment in time, we do not want to speculate. However, we are worried about the mineworkers,” Mammburu stated.

The Randfontein Herald reached out to Sibanye Stillwater’s spokesperson, James Wellstead; however, he is currently unavailable.
