Gifts, gratitude and compassion: 67 minutes for Mohlakeng’s elderly
Khethekile NPC and stakeholders exhibited their compassion for the elderly after they spent Mandela Day at the Mohlakeng Old Age Home.
To demonstrate their 67 minutes of love for the elderly on Mandela Day, Khethekile NPC, together with various other stakeholders, visited the Mohlakeng Old Age Home.
Khethekile, along with Tetley, municipal authorities and volunteers, blessed the home with various gifts, including food parcels.
A representative from Khethekile, Sipho Nzimande, emphasised the importance of supporting the elderly, especially during this period marked by social ills.

“We specifically wanted to uplift the elderly this year because of the societal issues they have to endure. They are our parents and we must ensure that they are cared for and recognised,” Sipho said.
Nontombi Zondo, a promoter at Tetley, noted that showing generosity to senior citizens is vital in today’s world.

“I am so pleased to be part of this event; however, I wish the elderly did not have to face such hardships. I pray that Khethekile continues its charitable work. Today’s youth are gradually contributing to social issues as they become more involved in substance abuse, teenage pregnancies, and crime. We hope the community learns from Khethekile and its charitable efforts,” Nontombi added.

Residents Tshepo Mothopeng, Unathi Makwene, Tumisang Marite, and Sonny Serage attended the event to give back to the community.

“This is a good gesture for our elders. We came to show them our love and care. We genuinely wanted to dedicate our 67 minutes to honour Mandela and the elderly. In these challenging times, we aim to give back to our senior citizens. Mandela Day is just one day, but it should be every day,” they expressed.
