Five stray dogs find hope with Cast Aways

A family of five stray dogs, including a paralysed puppy, is now safe and healing thanks to Cast Aways, but they need your help to stay strong.

Cast Aways Animal Sanctuary recently rescued a family of five stray dogs that had been living in a veld in Loumarina.

Louisa Rossouw, founder of Cast Aways, explained that they consist of a mom and a dad, and their three teenagers, all around six months old. She noted that they found out about the family after residents in the area raised concerns about them living in a field.

One of the puppies was paralised when they first found her. Louisa mentioned that this could be due to a type of tick fever or parasite that causes paralysis. She added that they believe the dogs were feeding on carcasses for survival, which is possibly where the parasites came from.

Luckily, the puppy and the rest of her family are doing well now, and they are in foster care together.

Louisa noted their priority is feeding the family healthy dog food, and they need the community’s help to do so.

Cast Aways can be contacted on 072 812 3333.
