Teen Alyssa set to shine in New York after sweeping talent awards
Teen Rappies model and vocalist believes no dream is too big as she prepares to take on new challenges at an international event in New York.
Laerskool Rapportryer learner Alyssa Janse van Rensburg (13) will perform at the Show Your Talent South Africa competition and step onto the international stage in New York as a model and singer.
As Alyssa recently took the national stage, her mother, Kathy, explained that her many talents impressed the panel of judges. With her impressive array of accolades, she has gained recognition both locally and internationally.
In the modelling category, Alyssa won:
• Golden buzzer and gold medal for Formal Wear
• Golden Buzzer and Gold medal in the Casual Ramp category
• Gold medal for Fitness Wear
• Silver medal in the Swimwear category
Her talent did not end there, as she secured the following medals in the vocals category:
• Two gold medals
• Three silver medals
With these achievements, Alyssa earned her provincial colours and qualified to represent South Africa in New York in 2026, where she will compete on the world stage.
Adding to her accomplishments, Alyssa was invited to perform at the prestigious Show Your Talent Showcase on August 16, in both modelling and vocals. At this event, she will be singing the national anthem.
“Alyssa’s success is not only a personal victory but also an inspiration to other young people in Randfontein to pursue their dreams with passion and dedication,” Kathy expressed.
Kathy further stated that Alyssa is a passionate and driven young talent with big dreams in both modelling and singing.
Beyond her artistic pursuits, Alyssa’s career ambitions reflect her curiosity and determination. She hopes to become either a pilot or pursue astrophysics.
“Through hard work and faith, Alyssa aims to inspire others to chase their dreams fearlessly, no matter how big they are,” Kathy said.
Alyssa believes that with faith and effort, anything is possible. She draws motivation from her family’s unwavering support, the excitement of performing on stage, and the joy of making people smile through her music and modelling. Most of all, she is inspired by the idea that you are never too young to dream big.
“Never compare your journey to anyone else’s because your path is uniquely yours. Work hard, stay humble and always be ready to learn. Believe in yourself, even when it’s tough. Remember that every ‘no’ is just making space for the right ‘yes’. Enjoy the process and never lose the passion that made you start,” Alyssa advised.
