Kagiso Segone launches Vibrations Taylor to unite fans and support artists

Kagiso Segone makes his music inclusive and relatable, blending Tswana, English, Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho and Afrikaans to connect with fans from all walks of life.

Mohlakeng artist Kagiso Segone (39) has kick-started his “1 000 Super Fans” campaign, called Vibrations Taylor, to show appreciation for his dedicated supporters and help struggling artists reach their dreams.

Kagiso said he was inspired to start this campaign because of his deep desire to cultivate his own loyal fanbase and to create meaningful connections with his audience.

His music is a unique fusion of Hip Hop, Kwaito, R&B, Afro Soul, Reggae, and Dancehall, often incorporating house music to give his songs a vibrant rhythm. To make his music inclusive and relatable, he uses multiple languages, including Tswana, English, Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho, and Afrikaans.

Music with a message

Through his songs, Kagiso tackles serious social issues but maintains a positive and uplifting approach, often promoting self-awareness, resilience and hope.

Kagiso’s musical journey began with his first performance at Randfontein High School in 2003. Since then, his career has been filled with both struggles and milestones spanning over 20 years.

During this time, he has performed alongside well-known artists, appeared on national television, and participated in radio interviews. He has also recorded and released music, produced music videos, and built a growing presence across social media platforms.

“This journey has not been easy since it is difficult to establish a music career,” he shared.

Despite the challenges, Kagiso remains determined to pursue his dream.

“Ever since I was a child, I knew this was my life’s purpose. Now, I see it as my mission to achieve both national and international success,” he added.

The birth of the Vibrations Taylor campaign

Kagiso’s campaign name was inspired by Bob Marley’s song Positive Vibration, which he says deeply resonated with him.

“I wanted to find something to stand for, and I found my identity in the positive energy of this song. I felt like I could represent this and influence those looking up to me,” he explained.

The 1000 Super Fans concept

While doing research as an independent artist, Kagiso came across the “1 000 Super Fans” method – an approach suggesting that an artist can sustain a successful career with just 1000 truly dedicated supporters.

“I learnt that as an artist, one only needs 1 000 dedicated fans to actually survive and live a good quality of life. I did the mathematics, and it made sense,” he said.

After consulting with public relations specialists, Kagiso received confirmation that the idea was both realistic and achievable. The specialists also offered advice on how to best execute the campaign.

When one of his performance videos reached over 1 000 plays within a week, Kagiso took it as a sign to officially launch Vibrations Taylor.

Phase One: Building awareness and connection

The first phase of the campaign focuses on raising awareness and connecting personally with fans. Kagiso plans to build direct communication channels and later provide access to a dedicated WhatsApp group.

As the campaign grows, he will host competitions where fans can perform and showcase their talent – giving them a platform to be discovered and recognised.

In the long term, Kagiso hopes this initiative will build a strong community of artists who can share experiences, challenges, and success stories.

A vision for unity and empowerment

“The vision is very broad because it is not just about me as an artist, but rather about building a community of like-minded, creative, and entrepreneurially driven people to form a power cycle where we could exchange amongst each other. It is more about uniting people,” Kagiso explained.

He described Vibrations Taylor as a community-oriented and collaborative initiative, where everyone’s voice matters and everyone’s dream can be realised.

A legacy of hope

“The legacy I want to leave behind through my music is that of a boy who made it from the worst conditions – the dusty streets of the township – to becoming a successful global artist and brand.

“It’s a story of tragedy to triumph. I want my life to be a testimony that no matter what we go through, we can overcome and succeed if we never give up on our dreams,” Kagiso expressed.
