Connie Mulder raises funds to make Christmas more festive for its residents

To help make the holidays more festive for its residents, the Connie Mulder Centre recently hosted a Christmas fundraiser.

The Connie Mulder Centre recently had a Christmas fundraiser in hopes of raising enough funds to help take care of their disabled residents this Christmas.

According to the CEO of the centre, Elona Uys, this event aimed to raise funds for their 120 residents who stay at the centre over the festive season. She added that the centre raised R30 000. The funds will be spent on gifts for the residents to make their Christmas special, as well as hosting events to help entertain them.

“Taking care of the disabled adults and frail seniors is a challenge since we need assistance with assistive devices. We are also in need of other necessities such as nappies,” Elona explained.

This amount exceeded the centre’s expectations, and Elona added that this event might become an annual one.

The centre currently has two volunteers who assist with annual fundraising events, and they receive students who need to complete tasks for their studies. In total, the centre has 79 employees, which consists of administrative, kitchen, medical, caregiving, social work and cleaning staff. These staff members need to care for more than 200 residents daily.

Not only are the residents allowed learning new skills, but the centre also offers church services every Sunday.
