Survivor’s story inspires many at cancer awareness event
With courage and faith, a multiple cancer survivor shared her journey to inspire others at the Mohlakeng MOU Clinic’s breast cancer awareness campaign.
Cancer is not a death sentence, and it can be beaten. This was the message shared with patients during an awareness event in Mohlakeng’s MOU Clinic, celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Giving a brave testimony and offering valuable advice was multiple cancer survivor Sister Pinky Makhutle. She also emphasised the importance of preventing cervical cancer through vaccination. This, she added, also applies to men, who should regularly test for testicular and prostate cancer, followed by an annual check-up at their local clinic.

Furthermore, she highlighted that using condoms and limiting sexual partners are effective ways to prevent certain cancers. Avoiding smoking can also significantly reduce the risk of developing serious cancers.
“We are happy with the success of the event. This was made possible through our partnership with Adolphus Igbokwe from Decalabash Hotel, who donated the sound system and drinks. This is our first initiative against cancer,” said organiser Zukiswa Moatshe.
