Soul Buddy initiative empowers learners and community

Malerato Primary’s Soul Buddy project is positively impacting the lives of its learners and aims to expand its support to benefit the wider community.

Malerato Primary’s Soul Buddy project distributed food parcels to support disadvantaged learners at the school.

Departmental head and Soul buddy co-ordinator Tshidi Gaserotse explained that the project aims to address social issues, including human rights, general health, violence against children, bullying and substance abuse.

“The project allows learners to learn about the aforementioned issues, to help develop skills and cultivate self-confidence,” Tshidi stated.

She noted the initiative was inspired by the works of well-known philanthropist Mother Teresa.

“She was selflessly dedicated to serving the poor. Much of the inspiration for what we do stems from her,” Tshidi added.

She noted they hoped to help at least two or three families; fortunately, they were able to acquire funds for more families. On October 27, they were able to distribute food hampers to over 20 families.

“We did reach our goal, but it doesn’t end here. If we can get sponsorships from companies, our project would be able to reach Malerato Primary learners and the community at large.

The school also has a Rele Bophelo School Garden project where they provide hands-on training to learners in order for them to then grow their own gardens. This ensures food security.
“The hands-on training supports learners’ development through personal growth, social development and academic enhancement,” explained Tshidi.

She continued to thank the NICC Princess Church for their donations, as well as every person involved in the project.
