Cast Aways rallies support for brave dog

Cast Aways Animal Sanctuary is appealing to the community for help in caring for Seuntjie, a dog found suffering from a severe prolapse.

Cast Aways Animal Sanctuary shared hopeful news after rescuing a dog that was nearly hit by a car, who is now recovering well with his foster mom after treatment for a prolapse.

Founder Louisa Rossouw explained the dog has since been named Seuntjie. When he was first handed in at their shelter, he was scared and confused and not at all used to a kennel. At first, they believed he had a family and was simply lost; however, no one came forward to claim him.

Louisa continued that was, however, not the saddest part of Seuntjie’s story. During the examination, they found a growth between his hind legs. Hoping it was only an abscess, he was rushed to the vet. Unfortunately, the vet had the troubling news that it was a prolapse and Seuntjie urgently needed surgery. A prolapse is when an organ slips down from its normal position because the muscles and tissues supporting it have weakened.

“Is this why his owner never came forward? Did they abandon him because of this? Or is there another story we’ll never know – one hidden behind those sad, trusting eyes? Whatever the reason, he didn’t deserve this. He deserves comfort, healing, and love; not pain and rejection,” Rossouw said.

Luckily, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Seuntjie’s surgery went well, and his organs were placed back in position. He was also sterilised in the process and is currently recuperating at a foster home where he is receiving much-needed love.

“This brave little boy has been through so much, but his healing journey has begun,” Louisa stated.

Any person who would like to contribute to Seuntjie’s care can contact Louisa on 072 812 3333.
