RandWest SPCA faces closure without urgent committee appointments
RandWest SPCA warns that closure is imminent unless additional committee members are appointed.
The RandWest SPCA has warned that it may be forced to close unless additional committee members are appointed at an upcoming Special General Meeting.
The organisation, which serves Randfontein and Westonaria, currently has only four committee members – significantly fewer than required to sustain operations. The shortage has placed pressure on remaining volunteers and is affecting fundraising, service coordination and the management of animals in its care.
A Special General Meeting has been called to appoint new committee members. Without these appointments, the organisation says it cannot continue operating.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Brenda Eloff said the outcome of the meeting is critical.
“Unless we urgently secure additional committee members, the SPCA will be forced to close its doors,” she said.

Eloff warned that the impact would extend beyond the shelter itself.
“Each month, we take in between 260 and 300 animals. Without our services, there will be no local organisation to rescue abused or neglected animals or assist in prosecuting animal abusers. The broader community will be left without essential support.”
Committee members serve in a voluntary governance role, providing strategic oversight and supporting operational staff.
The meeting will take place at SPCA Randfontein, South Married Quarters, Randfontein Road, on March 28 at 09:00.
