Community to access essential services at Mohlakeng Old Age Home

Residents can apply for social grants, get help with ID documents and access support services during a one-stop outreach in Mohlakeng.

Residents will have direct access to a range of essential government services when Deputy Minister of Social Development Ganief Hendricks leads an Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) on March 27 at the Mohlakeng Old Age Home.

According to a joint statement by acting chief director of communications for the Department of Social Development, Sandy Godlwana, and SASSA Gauteng communications head Lungelo Mkamba, the initiative is aimed at bringing services closer to communities, particularly those who face challenges accessing them due to distance, cost or administrative barriers.

“The programme is designed to make it easier for residents to access assistance in one place,” said Godlwana.

She added that the outreach forms part of Human Rights Month activities and reflects the government’s commitment to improving access to social support services, especially for vulnerable groups such as older persons, children and people with disabilities.

On the day, residents will be able to access a range of services, including assistance with social grant applications and enquiries, help with birth certificates and identity documents, and support for victims of gender-based violence and substance abuse. Social workers will also be available to provide guidance and referrals.

Additional services will be provided by various government departments and partners, including the Department of Health, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the National Development Agency and the Public Protector.

The programme will begin with a community engagement session, allowing residents to interact directly with the deputy minister and other officials, followed by on-site service delivery.

“The deputy minister will be joined by representatives from local, provincial and national government, highlighting a coordinated effort to deliver accessible, people-centred services,” Godlwana said.

Residents are encouraged to bring their ID’s and any relevant supporting paperwork to make full use of the services available.
