WATCH: 20 days in chains to fight kidnapping crisis in SA
The campaign exposes the harsh realities of human trafficking while empowering communities to respond.
The Myburgh Foundation has launched a bold and impactful Kidnapping and Human Trafficking Awareness Campaign, kicking off today, April 8, and running throughout the month.
In a striking show of solidarity, founder Randy Christian will be bound in chains for a minimum of six hours each day, visiting a different community over 20 days to draw attention to the harsh realities faced by victims.
Funds raised during the campaign will support the foundation’s Search and Rescue operations, as well as assist trafficked victims.

Campaign co-ordinator Cindy Christian explained that the initiative aims to shed light on the severe violation of basic human rights and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. She noted that the campaign will actively engage communities, with daily visits to different areas over the 20 days.
“We believe a proactive approach is needed to educate communities to remain vigilant and not become soft targets – especially around shopping malls, which are considered high-risk areas where traffickers often prey on unsuspecting individuals, particularly women and children,” she said.
Cindy added that the foundation’s mandate is not only to raise awareness but also to provide critical support to victims of kidnappings and their families.

“This initiative stems from the urgent need to take action in protecting vulnerable people, as statistics show an average of 53 kidnappings occur in South Africa each day. Raising awareness is key to reducing these risks,” she said.
The Myburgh Foundation is calling on local businesses and stakeholders to partner with them in combating this serious crime. They can be reached 24/7 on 062 591 2268 or via email at myburgh.est@gmail.com.
