Charleen van der Westhuizen, a teacher at RCA said each child was given a booklet where they can indicate certain aspects about their mother, by ticking a box that speaks of their mother’s character.

They also had the chance to colour in the booklet and read messages of appreciation for their mothers.

We wanted to encourage our learners to empower their mothers this Mother’s Day.

“That’s because a lot of the time, most women go through so much and end up experiencing self-doubt. Because of this, we want them to know they are loved and appreciated. I strongly feel that a mother is the most important in a household,” said van der Westhuizen.

Resego Tadinyane, Teano Mphore, and Kefentse Sebe were excited about Mother’s Day and said that they love their mothers.

She added that they constantly have conversations with the learners where we teach them to appreciate their parents, especially their mothers.

This is in addition to asking them to be helpful when in their homes and assist their mothers where they need help.

The Herald also spoke to Grade 1 learners Teano Mphore and Resego Tadinyane who agreed that they love their mothers.
