RHS learners celebrate International Day of the Boy Child

Two RHS learners took part in the celebration of International Day of the Boy Child at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

Two learners from Randfontein High School (RHS) recently visited the Gauteng Provincial Legislature to discuss matters relating to the well-being of boys in the community.

School spokesperson Rodney Prins explained Bryce Mos and Kieran Fisher celebrated International Day of the Boy Child at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on Freedom Day.

He noted the celebration included commissions regarding the impact of boys in the community.

A few of the commissions included:

• The impact of fathers on the development of the boy child
• The role of the boy child in fighting gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) Commission
• The importance of culture and tradition (initiation) in the life of a boy child
• Reviewing and designing an environment that will enhance the positivity for a boy child in Gauteng

According to International Days, International Day of the Boy Child is celebrated on May 16. It was founded in 2018 by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, a university lecturer from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. It focuses on boys and their well-being, their need to feel happy, healthy, and valued within family and community.
