Reggie Rhino makes safety fun for toddlers

Preschool children learned important safety tips about fires and road crossings.

The learners at Bob and Wendy’s Nursery School and Aftercare recently received a visit from Reggie Rhino to teach them about fire safety.

School principal, Yolande Jansen van Vuuren, explained that the theme of the awareness campaign was ‘learn not to burn’. The learners were educated on what to do if they are on fire, which is to drop and roll. They were also taught what to do if they are in a room that is on fire, which is to go low to the ground and crawl away with their faces covered.

The traffic department also educated the learners on what to do when they cross a road by looking left, then right and left again. Together, they also taught the children not to play with matches, as one match can burn the entire house down.

Every learner was gifted with a ‘Reggie is my friend’ teddy bear and had a chance to climb into the fire truck.

This was the first time the Reggie Rhino team held such a campaign,” Yolande said.

“It was a great honour to host this campaign. The children enjoyed it. It was extremely educational for them, and they could sing and laugh together.”
