Randfontein matrics receive key exam advice

Randfontein matrics from three high schools hear practical strategies to excel in their final exams.

The Director-General of the Department of Basic Education, Hubert Mathanzima Mweli, addressed Grade 12 learners from three Randfontein high schools recently as they prepare for their final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

Learners from Hoërskool Riebeeckrand, Randfontein High School and Hoërskool Jan Viljoen gathered at Hoërskool Riebeeckrand for the early morning engagement.

Mweli urged the matrics to remain focused and disciplined in the months leading up to the exams, emphasising goal-setting, consistent attendance and structured study habits. He encouraged learners to rely on teachers and available support systems to strengthen their performance across subjects.

Among the key points he highlighted were:

• Attend class daily and arrive on time
• Engage actively during lessons
• Dedicate at least three hours a day to personal study
• Use study materials effectively, make handwritten notes and practise examination papers from the past five years
• Maintain discipline and hold one another accountable as a matric group.

Learners Luthando Mpanjukelwa, Ruaan Lombard, Sakhile Mhlongo and Oratile Buthelezi said the advice resonated with them.

“The plan is to beat the pass rate because we feel we can do better,” said Sakhile.

They expressed confidence that the matric Class of 2026 can improve on the results achieved in 2025.

The visit forms part of the department’s broader programme to support and prepare Grade 12 learners ahead of the national examinations.
