Riebeeckrand battles on but falls short against Randburg

Despite a standout win from the third team and close contests in the U16 matches, Hoërskool Riebeeckrand faced a challenging day against a strong Hoërskool Randburg side.

Hoërskool Riebeeckrand faced a challenging afternoon on the rugby field when they took on Hoërskool Randburg in a series of fixtures on June 12.

Despite a few closely contested matches and one notable victory, the Randfontein side, which was playing away, had to contend with strong opposition across most age groups.

The U14 teams endured a difficult start, with the U14A side going down 55–5 and the U14B team losing 41–10. The U15A match showed more resilience from Riebeeckrand, but they were narrowly defeated 17–7, while the U15B side fell 38–17.

One of the standout performances came from the U16A team, who pushed Randburg all the way in a tightly contested clash before narrowly losing 21–17. The U16B side also delivered a spirited performance but came up just short in a 29–26 defeat.

Riebeeckrand’s third team provided a highlight for the day, securing a convincing 31–14 victory and showcasing the depth of talent within the school’s rugby structures.

However, the senior teams faced a tough challenge. The second team suffered a 26–0 loss, while the first team was defeated 30–8 in a hard-fought encounter against a well-drilled Randburg outfit.

While the overall results did not favour Riebeeckrand, the determination and fighting spirit shown in several of the matches – particularly in the U16 divisions – reflect a team that continues to grow and compete with pride. The experience gained from such fixtures will no doubt serve as valuable preparation for the games ahead.
