Parents and guardians across Gauteng are being encouraged to start preparing for the 2027 online admissions process for Grade One and Grade Eight learners, with the official application dates expected to be announced soon.

The Gauteng MEC for Education, Lebogang Maile, said that although the application period has not yet been finalised, families should use the time to gather all the required supporting documents to ensure a smooth application process once the system opens.

The required documents include a parent or guardian’s South African ID or passport, as well as the learner’s birth certificate or passport. Where applicable, families must also provide a permanent residence permit or study permit.

Parents will also need proof of their home and work addresses. Grade Eight applicants must submit their most recent Grade Seven school report, while Grade One applicants must provide a clinic card or immunisation report.

Maile also clarified that Grade R applications will not be processed through the online system. Parents and guardians will need to apply directly at schools.

The department encouraged families to follow its official communication platforms for verified updates on the admissions process.

“We appreciate your patience and encourage parents and guardians to follow official channels for accurate information on the 2027 Online Admissions process,” the department said in a statement.

Parents are also reminded to apply as soon as the system opens to help avoid placement challenges.
