Serious leadership crisis in Toekomsrus

As a resident of the so called 'coloured town' I used to believe that the ANC will not and cannot do anything for me as I am not a black person and they will not understand my needs.

I have been a resident of Toekomsrus for 35 years and its the first time that I have to voice out my serious disgust at the lack of leadership in this community.

As a resident of the so called ‘coloured town’ I used to believe that the ANC will not and cannot do anything for me as I am not a black person and they will not understand my needs.

Needless to say I never voted.

Then for the local elections I told myself to give the DA a chance since they were saying that they understand the needs of the coloured and seeing the leaders of the party, I was convinced that now Toekomsrus will become one of the model areas and that the employment rate will go down.

They promised that the now much talked about indoor sports complex will be completed, providing jobs for locals and also to ensure that recreational facilities are in place to keep our youth busy and away from drugs.

I feel that it is my duty to warn the community of Toekomsrus that we were being taken for a ride.

Toekomsrus never looked so bad until they took over

The community is faced with a huge electricity and water bill crisis and our so-called councillors from ward 3 and the ward 4 pr councilor are sending us from pillar to post claiming that they are not able to rectify this problem, yet they are employees of the council.

They promised us during the elections that they will be our mouthpiece and will ensure that things like this don’t happen.

Another point that must be highlighted is that the indigent people are cut off if they do not pay for services or are in arrears, sometimes for amounts as little as R500, yet some DA councillors owe the municipality more that R15 000 in outstanding rates and taxes but their electricity is never disconnected.

I find it strange that we are not treated the same yet we are the same as the councillors that we voted for who now turn around and claim that they do not know how to fix the problems of the people who voted them in power.
