Mayor congratulates matrics
The West Rand District Municipality appreciates the slight increase in the pass rate from 84.50% in 2012 to 90.23 in 2013.

The West Rand District together with its sister municipalities welcome the outcome of the matric results which indicate a sterling performance of the class of 2013.
It is worth noting that the performance of our matriculants has been consistent for the last few years despite isolated violent protests that engulfed our region causing minor disruptions in some schools.
The West Rand District Municipality appreciates the slight increase in the pass rate from 84.50% in 2012 to 90.23 in 2013.
We would like to congratulate all the candidates from the previously disadvantaged schools who have done well, more especially in Bekkersdal and Westonaria where violent protests in the area had a severe and negative impact during preparations for matric examination.
We wish to thank all parents and the Gauteng Education Department for taking care of all our matriculants and ensuring that they write their examinations and pass with flying colours.
We want to show appreciation to the work done by AB Phokompe High School among other schools in Randfontein, Merafong, Westonaria and Mogale City.
They have demonstrated the highest degree of determination in their school work throughout the 2013 academic year.
We also appreciate the good work done by families and communities in supporting our children by providing a conducive environment to study and thrive in their quest for academic excellence.
This support must further extend to other grades including post-matric level.
Therefore, we call upon families, communities and educators to provide moral and emotional support to those students who could not attain the desired success.
People communities must never leave them behind and make them feel hopeless.
We wish to emphasize that those learners who could not make it in the 2013 race should not give up as this is not the end of the road.
There are still supplementary exams for those who do not qualify to further their studies.
