Mall assault: What’s the reason behind it?

Just for the record ... I'm not white. I'm just a person who believes in fairness.

Good morning.

I am reacting to the article entitled Assault at Mall Saga …

My questions to our Mayor, Mr Mzi Khumalo are:

1. How do you know it was a racial attack?

2. Every day we hear about people being brutally attack and murdered in their own homes during break-ins. Why do you keep quiet about it? Why don’t you also make a big fuss about it? Why don’t you also bring the race issue in, because a lot of times people from different race groups are involved?

We’ve been living in a democratic country for 23 years, as you stated, but people don’t want to move away from the racial issues. As long as we are racist in our hearts, this country will never change. Maybe we should start looking at our own behaviour, and ask ourselves if we are not perhaps the racist ones.

3. Why do we read about the assault, but not about the reason for it? I can’t believe that those guys just walked up to their victim and give him a beating without any reason.

I want to agree with Brigadier Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander: “Our communities must also be careful not to make racial connotations with regard to crime”.

Just for the record … I’m not white. I’m just a person who believes in fairness.
