Help us maintain the dignity of our town

We need the commitment of the local businesses and residential stakeholders to restore our town to its former glory.

We have decided to join hands with the Herald and disgruntled members of the public in an effort to clean up the town.

I saw the article in the Herald about their plan to start cleaning up the town, called the editor and told him the RPA will assist wherever necessary.

The Herald article was posted on the RPA Facebook page and shared with many Randfontein social media forums in an effort to try to mobilise as many business owners and members of the public to get involved.

It’s time to stop complaining about the situation and take matters into our own hands. I have found Randfonteiners in general to be passionate about the town, me included. It pains us to see how the town has deteriorated in terms of litter and the lack of general maintenance in public areas.

Many privately owned businesses do their bit in keeping their pavements and business areas clean, but unfortunately many members of the public – and some business owners – don’t seem to care at all. They will happily throw their litter on the pavements and in the streets and the authorities don’t seem to be able to cope with this problem.

Home-owners have even taken to dumping their garden and home refuse in abandoned fields and on the side of the roads leading out of town. Randfontein is a town we love and it has become clear that it is up to us – Joe Public – to maintain the dignity of our town.

But we cannot do this alone. We need the commitment of the local businesses and residential stakeholders to restore our town to its former glory. I would like to share the following quote: “Happiness/ success does not come from doing easy work but from the afterglow of satisfaction that comes after the achievement of a difficult task that demanded our best.” – Theodore Isaac Rubin, Psychologist.

Let’s do this, Randfontein!
