Local karateka Jade King fought his way into the final at the Karate National Championships held in Durban, Tongaat.
Jade who is a member of Karate South Africa is now selected to represent his country at the Zone 6 International Championships in Namibia at the end of June in the Children’s Division together with team mate Enzo Pillay in the cadets Division.
Qualification at that Zone 6 International Championship level will give them a ticket to the All Africa Karate Championship.
Karate contestants from all over South Africa who took part in this event had to go through the regional and the provincial trials.
This was a tough route and therefore consisted of only the best of the best karate athletes from the nine provinces in the country.
Jade put up an amazing performance throughout the tournament and was narrowly beaten in the semi finals by the skin of his teeth. He was then selected to contest in the Zone 6 Championships.
Jade says that he is proud to represent his country and will wear the South African flag over his shoulder.
Sensei Kruben Pillay wishes his students all of the best at the championships in Namibia.
